India's Turmeric Export Outlook for 2026: Volumes, Prices & Top Buyers

India ships nearly 60% of the world's turmeric. Here's how Erode, Nizamabad and Sangli mandis are shaping FY26 export pricing.

India's Turmeric Export Outlook for 2026: Volumes, Prices & Top Buyers

Why India still dominates turmeric

India produces more than 75% of global turmeric and exports it to over 100 countries. The Geographical Indication tags on Erode, Sangli, Nizamabad and Lakadong varieties keep Indian curcumin content premium — typically 3% to 7% — well above the 2% floor most pharma buyers demand.

FY26 price movement

After the 2024 supply shock that pushed Nizamabad finger turmeric beyond ₹17,000/quintal, plantings rose ~20% across Telangana and Maharashtra. Arrivals from March 2026 onwards have softened spot prices to the ₹11,500–₹13,000/quintal range, which is finally re-opening contract volumes from Bangladesh, Iran and the UAE.

Who is buying

The US and UAE remain anchor buyers for curcumin-grade lots, while Bangladesh and Sri Lanka dominate culinary-grade demand. EU buyers continue to insist on ETO-free, low-pesticide-residue lots — a niche where steam-sterilised Indian turmeric commands a 12–18% premium.

What exporters should do now

Lock in Q3 contracts before monsoon arrivals tighten, prioritise lab-tested low-moisture lots (<10%), and offer flexible 5kg/25kg packaging for Middle-East retail repackers. Buyers increasingly want a single supplier who can bundle turmeric with dry chillies and coriander.
